Archaeologists have found the oldest dental implant in Europe

The implant is in the form of iron pin, age 2300 years, was found in France.

Iron dental implant was installed instead of upper incisor, found in the burial chamber of a young woman in Le Chene, Northern France. The discovery of the iron age can be the oldest artifact of this kind found in Western Europe. The grave also contained bronze jewellery, corals, amber necklace, and other attributes of Celtic culture.

The majority of experts is sure that a dental implant was inserted into a living woman, but some believe the iron tooth set old resident posthumously, for aesthetic reasons. Date of burial, according to the calculations of archaeologists, coincides with the period when the Celtic Gauls were in contact with Etruscan civilization in Northern Italy, famous for its dental art.
