Male obesity - how to deal with it

Researchers at the University of Adelaide believe that the culprit of obesity in men in developed countries is an imbalance of female sex hormones.

Scientists believe that obesity among men may be associated with exposure to substances containing the female sex hormone estrogen, which are more often found in rich countries, such as soy products and plastics. Analyzing the data, the authors of the study noticed significant differences in obesity in women and men, depending on the development of the economy and gross domestic product.

James Grantham explained, "Caused by hormonal changes, weight gain occurs more significantly in women in developing countries. In the Western world, for example, in the United States, Europe and Australia, obesity between men and women is much closer. In some Western countries, obesity in men more feminine." Experts believe that improper diet is not the only factor.

Professor Henneberg: "Exposure to estrogen is known to cause weight gain, primarily due to the inhibition of cancer and modulation of the hypothalamus. Soy products contain Xenoestrogens and we are concerned that in societies with high dietary consumption of soy, for example, in the United States, this can lead to "feminization" of males.

"Another source of xenoestrogen is polyvinyl chloride, PVC. This product is in wide use in most wealthy countries, from plastic medical devices to piping water supply".

Professor Henneberg says that microevolutionary changes can occur in Western societies and lead to changes in the levels of testosterone and estrogen in men. "It definitely explains the various concerns about the declining number of sperm among men in developed countries," he says.
