Environmental Standards Program Recognized by U.S. Ports
Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has been recognized by the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles for its environmental standards.
The Port of Long Beach, Los Angeles hosted the Green Flag program and the Ship Speed Reduction program. Ship operators are advised to slow down speed to 12 knots or less within a specific port area. The programs aim to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and sulfur in coastal areas to preserve the coastal environment. Each year, Port Authority awards the best ship operators who have achieved significant emissions reductions.
Tokyo-based Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, Japan) is the largest multimodal cargo transportation group and has a fleet of more than 800 vessels with a total tonnage of 55.4 thousand tons. Each year, a total of 250 MOL OSK Lines vessels, including container ships calling at the TRAPAC Group container terminal, as well as trucks, tankers, bulk carriers, and cargo carriers cross the coastal area with a set speed limit.
