Tables for which you need to stand, increase the concentration in children

It is widely known that frequent sitting, is bad for health, a new study conducted with the participation of elementary school students shows that the tables at which to stand can actually reduce obesity in children, increasing attention span. Associate Professor mark Benden(Mark Benden) Texas A&M tested this theory by introducing the "step count" tables in the classroom with students 480 elementary school in College Station Independent School District.

Every student had to wear a sensor on their arm to record "step count" and "calorie consumption", within five school days. Results? The people who gave children the opportunity to hold classes in an upright position in the classroom these tables helped them burn more calories — 15 percent more than can offer traditional desks — and also, it seemed that they help to improve concentration.

"When children get an environment that would encourage and promote movement during instructional time, they will move more and consequently this can increase power consumption," — said in reporting the study results. "Similarly, the traditional environment where you normally sit, in fact, may restrict children's natural physiology and keep their movements to a minimum."

According to CoExist, the study is still in its early stages, and Benden have to test on the ground made tables with a large number of students, to explore what the effects of specific instructions from teachers could influence the results. But now the results are showing encouraging signs that stand out in class is good for the health of children and their learning. "If this change in environment improves health and academic performance, this should be a good incentive for schools that can invest in changing their standard of furniture for the classroom.
