The incredible plain of Jars in Laos

The so-called plain of Jars is an archaeological monument in Laos. It was an amazing sight. On the hills there and there are pitchers in height from 1 to 3.5 meters, and their diameter averages 1 meter. The biggest weight of the jug reaches 6 tons. As they appeared – for scientists remains a mystery. Not known how is it that these jugs are made from such types of stones, which does not happen in this area.

Authorities are considering the question of how to assign the Valley of Jars world heritage status by UNESCO. The complexity of the assignment is that Xiangkhoang was bombarded by the U.S. air force during the Secret War, in 70-e years. This is the reason why most of this amazing valley is inaccessible to tourists.

During the bombing suffered not only pitchers, but also the field itself, which today has many deep craters. Collectors all pitchers with smaller size has long taken from the hills. But, despite this fact, the place still had hundreds of copies, which are arranged in five groups. Tourists visit the most affordable place. It's called Thong Hai hin. It is worth noting that here is the largest of all pitchers.

Tell a lot about these jugs of unknown origin, no one can. It is not known how they came into the valley. No one knows who, how and with what purpose was created the vessels. There are only assumptions, theories and hypotheses. One of them tells us that pitchers are the ancient people burned the bodies of the deceased. Another hypothesis suggests that such vessels is the ideal place for storing wine and rice. But whatever speculation is not built, they are all very, very doubtful. No evidence to support at least one of the known hypotheses that are not discovered to this day. The only thing that scientists say for sure is their age: 2500 – 3000 years.

Experts in different branches of science put forward a new theory. Historians together with anthropologists believe that these jars were used by ancient peoples either for water storage or as funerary urns. Archaeologists believe that in those days they used to collect water or for the manufacture and storage of oils. It is worth noting that the culture of this ancient people knows nothing.
