Engineers from Stanford have created a battery that would charge almost instantly

One of the main problems of modern smartphones is the short battery battery life. So now it is a lot of studies that aimed to improve this figure. For example, at the University of California at Berkeley are working on a powerful battery under the name "Supercapacitor", and SolidEnergy to develop a long-lived battery for Google's Project Ara.

And at Stanford University, developed a new aluminum-ion battery, which is not only safer than current alkaline and Li-ion, but potentially can be recharged from zero to maximum in just a minute. Yes, you guessed right, in the experiments, the scientists found "unprecedented charging time", approximately one minute.

It is also important that the battery will be much safer. "Our new battery will not ignite, even if you try to open her up," says Hanggi Let (Hongjie Dai), a chemistry Professor from Stanford.

Another advantage of aluminum radiators is a greater number of charge cycles. So modern lithium-ion batteries, the figure is about 1000 cycles, and a new aluminium ion as it turned out in experiments, is able to provide 7500 cycles without loss of capacity.

Battery is made of flexible materials, it can be bent or even folded, making it a great option for smartphones with a curved body and screen.

Of course, research is not yet complete, and now the main task – to increase the voltage, which can produce the battery, while this figure was set at 2 volts. A conventional Li-ion battery can produce 3.5 volts. But this flaw will be fixed with better materials, say the researchers.

"Our battery has everything it needs to have a battery dreams: cheap ingredients, high security, fast charging, flexibility and long life cycle, says Dye, I see it as the future of batteries". Published
