Swedish scientists have created artificial neuron

Bio electronic device, invented at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, functions as a "live" neuron and can interact with other nerve cells.

An artificial neuron consists of conductive polymers — varieties of plastic conducting electricity. It can detect and transmit chemical signals to other nerve cells: it is a sensitive component that responds to changes in chemical signals and transformerait them into electricity. In the second stage they, in turn, are transformed into acetylcholine — a kind of neurotransmitter, a chemical transmitter of signals between neurons, which affects the living nerve cells.

The researchers explained that they have yet to reduce the size of the neuron laboratory sample while it is impossible to implant in the human body. However, in the future, artificial neurons can be used for the treatment of neurological diseases, for example, to restore the nervous system, bypassing the destroyed nerve cells.

P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
