Los Angeles police are switching to electric cars, the assets of law enforcement officers already have a BMW i3 and Tesla Model S P85D.
At least 160 all-electric and 128 hybrid vehicles will be added to the Los Angeles Municipal Vehicle fleet. This was announced at a recent press conference by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
“Today, we are taking another step toward making Los Angeles the most developed city in America,” Garcetti said in a statement. “This year, L.A. will be the city with the largest fleet of all-electric vehicles, while saving our taxpayers money.”
The city already has 23 electric scooters and three fully electric motorcycles, but this is the city’s first major step towards electric cars. The mayor of the city has very ambitious environmental plans for the city fleet – by 2017, every second passenger car should be electric, and by 2025 the share of electric vehicles in the city fleet should be at least 80%.
160 electric vehicles will be distributed among police, firefighters and utilities. The first will receive a hundred fully electric cars, and this will be one of the largest corporate purchases to date. In addition, representatives of utilities and the Department of Water and Energy A further 128 hybrid vehicles will be delivered to Los Angeles.
In addition to the aforementioned 288 electric cars, the Los Angeles Police Department received two expensive electric cars for temporary use: the BMW i3 and the Tesla Model S P85D. The police are vague about the purpose of these electric vehicles, noting that these cars will be tested by technical experts to assess the feasibility of using the technology in the future. published
