Created a self-charging camera
At first glance this camera looks like a very old device, making pictures with the daguerreotype did. But appearance is not important, because the clothes, as usual, just meet and see off already according to quite different criteria. This camera is not as simple as it might seem at first glance.
Judge for yourself: in digital cameras, the photodiodes convert light into energy in solar cells the light they accumulate.
Specialists of the laboratory of Computer Vision from the American University of Columbia have created slopetools the camera, forcing a photodiode that converts light into electric charges to do double duty, namely, to convert and store energy at the same time.
Unlike conventional cameras, each of the photodiodes is connected to a special scheme that allows you to save part of the energy in a capacitor for subsequent recharge.
The work began with the establishment of a single photodiode dual action, capable of capturing one pixel at a time. Take a single photo took about an hour, but it was worth it. Now the camera shoots 1200 pixels at once and takes a picture every second, displaying the result on an external display.
Currently the team is working on reducing the dimensions of the chamber and also plans to increase the shooting speed and resolution. Thus, the invention can be useful in security systems, for filming in the wild and even in space. It's all about the light.published
P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
