Onbasira - how to ride a log in Japanese

The festival takes place every six years for 1200 years during the Monkey and the Tiger on the Chinese calendar. Ombasira (Onbashira or Suwa's Onbashira Festival) is one of the most dangerous, traumatic and crazy festivals in Japan. Ombasira lasts several months, and consists of two segments, and Yamadasi Satobiki. Yamadasi traditionally held in April, Satobiki held in May. Yamadasi literally means "coming out of the mountains." Before this part of the festival felled huge trees during a Shinto ceremony, with the ax and tёsel, specially made for single use. Logs make out in red and white regalia, is the traditional color of Shinto ceremonies, and are attached to the ropes. During Yamadasi men team go down on logs from the mountain to the four shrines of Suwa-Taishi. There should be delivered 16 logs.





Onbashira (御 柱 (literally translated as honorary posts) is one of the most significant festivals in Japan. While the whole country together with tourists enjoying cherry blossom, near Suwa Lake in Nagano Prefecture (Nagano) starts the oldest festival in the country. In Japan, many festivals with ancient history, a lot of strange and some very strange festivals. Ombasira not only the old and strange, it is also one of the most dramatic festivals, with broken arms, legs and ribs.

During the most spectacular part of the holiday have to move out on a huge log with the bottom of the hill. Prior to this, residents cut down logs 16, won by effort of the city on cross-country, marching with them through the streets with music and singing. Then the logs are involved in the descent from the hill and then they will be placed in the temples. The Japanese believe that spirits inhabit trees (deity), and for this they then dragged to the sanctuaries.
