Initially (1936) on the site of the museum was a scientific cryogenic laboratory. The date of foundation of the museum in the underground part is considered to be March 19, 1965, when in one of the halls of the underground science laboratory had the first exposure. In 1991 he formed a local history museum (since 1995 - Local Lore complex) "Museum of permafrost." In 1995, the underground part of the museum was declared a natural monument of regional significance.
