Monte Kali huge mountain of salt in Germany

Monte Kali is located in the east German state of Hesse. In fact it is not a mountain, but the blade of sodium chloride, or common salt. It is a by-product from the extraction of potash - potassium oxide. His production for a hundred years has been a major industrial sector in the region, there is the world's largest potash mine on extraction. In the process of production of potash in the output is a mixture of potassium carbonate and chloride: for each ton of potash has to several tons of salt.





Gore began to grow in 1973, today it is more than 200 meters high and in January 2014, it covers an area of ​​93 hectares. Monte Kali contains about 188 million tons of salt. Every hour, it increases to 900 tons, and every year - 6, 4 million tons.

The local mountain is called "Kalimandzharo." For this blade ecology, by the way, is quite bad - salt contaminates the soil, rivers and groundwater in the region.
