The automaker Volvo together with the company Renova, dealing with garbage disposal, and scientists from three different technological universities разрабатывают semi-automatic garbage collection in the suburbs with the help of robots. Two-wheeled robot engineers plan will take away with the garbage bins and empty them in the garbage, helping the driver with the most dirty and hard work.

The project was called Robot-based Autonomous Refuse handling («autonomous garbage collection with the help of robots," abbreviated ROAR). Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden is responsible for software development, University College Malardalen - for the creation of robots. It is planned that it will be two-wheeled design equipped with manipulators for carrying garbage containers.

Engineers from the University of Pennsylvania are taken to develop a communication system that allows the driver will have to supervise the work of robots, including the signaling and control panel. The driver will be spared from direct contact with debris and lifting weights.

For Volvo, this project is another way to develop and test new concepts related to robotics and transportation of the future. The Company believes that in the future mankind will continue to increase the degree of automation in all the processes. In addition, the project will be to develop research in the field of robotics and participate in the educational process. The company is optimistic in the projections and promises to start the test departures robotic scavengers in June 2016.
