Asian elephants usually live in small social groups centered around females and cubs, while adult males roam alone. However, a new study published in the journal "Ecology" is published by BioMed Central, said that although the Asian elephant in Sri Lanka can change companies, they maintain an extensive, stable network of friends from which you choose a partner.
Researchers tracked for five seasons, the friendship between more than a hundred adult female Asian elephants living in Uda Walawe National Park (Uda Walawe National Park), Sri Lanka, and analyze how their relationship changed over time.
If the group had three adult female elephants, the total number of herds could reach 17 individuals. Some elephants are constantly seen in the company of each other, while others passed from group to group. Interestingly, 16% of the elephants totally changed five of his "best friends" during the study. Those animals that had few friends, were very attached to them, and those who have a lot, have been less loyal.
