The settlement is situated in a valley surrounded on all sides by the Alps, so from mid-November to early February, local residents living in the dark, literally. The real salvation was the construction of a giant mirror, reflecting the sun's rays.
For centuries the inhabitants viganella annually celebrated the "return" of the sun on February 2. But everything changed in 2006 when the resourceful architect Giacomo Bonzani designed the giant structure, which reflects the sunlight in the town square all year round. From now on, in the winter months a village bathed in light and heat.
A huge mirror is mounted at a height of 870 meters above the village, its area - 40 square meters. Turn the mirror in the right direction allows for the fact that the sun's rays are constantly reflected down, illuminating the village.
Today the village viganella was a real tourist attraction. Giacomo Bonzani admits that his idea to fill the village of sunlight did not immediately believe. However, when his associate, engineer Emilio Barlocco, made the necessary calculations, the mayor of the village Pierfranco Midali made every effort to find sponsors. The cost of the project turned out to be rather big, it amounted to about 100 000 euros.
