Romanian archaeologists have found a couple of medieval skeletons, "Romeo" and "Juliet", holding hands
Archaeologists conducting excavations in Transylvania, Romania, found the skeletons of young men and women buried in the Middle Ages, facing each other and holding hands. Local residents named a couple of "Romeo and Juliet».
Couple found during excavations in the courtyard of the Higher School of Music named Sigismund Toduty. Built in the 15th century building was previously used as a Dominican monastery. According to a senior researcher Adrian Rusu, these people probably lived in the period between 1450 and 1550, the year.
Apparently, the man died of blunt impact to the chest, broke his rib cage. The reason for the death of his girlfriend has not been established. Despite the confidence of local people and links to the famous Shakespearean tragedy, yet it is unlikely that she committed suicide, though, because in the Middle Ages that suicide is never buried in the holy land, not to mention the burial in the monastery. Rusu believes that a woman could die of a heart attack or stroke caused by the shock of the accident with her lover. In addition, the cause could be a disease, traces of which, of course, have not survived in the bones or poisoning. A man could die in an accident while working.
The researchers also found buried next to them the skeleton of a child and another incomplete skeleton of an adult.
