Australia has its own "Stonehenge", only much older - Woerden Youang
About halfway between Melbourne and Geelong (Victoria, Australia) is a stone structure, the contour of which is shaped like an egg. It consists of about 100 blocks in height from 0, 5 to 1 m, length "eggs" along the main axis that extends almost due east and west, - 50 m. The ownership of the object of cultural heritage belongs to the Community Aboriginal Vataurong and confirmed by the Council Aboriginal Victoria.
At the west end of the stone buildings Woerden Youang - three stones, resembling the outline of the three mountains that can be seen directly on their background. There, in the west, the main part of the perimeter - a few stones, which is supposed to historian John Morizon helped identify ancient natives equinoxes, and the summer and winter solstices.
In 2008, the year this place scrutinized Australian astrophysicist Ray Norris and his wife Cilla: calculating them confirmed - dropping out of the general contour stones, as well as the southern and northern sides of "egg" really point to the location of the sun during these dates.
Vataurong tribe living on these lands for more than 25 thousand years, but unfortunately, their customs and language were banned by missionaries a century ago, with the result that remained only a small part of their ancient culture. Now, even the elders of the tribe do not know exactly what was used Woerden Youang, and when it was built. The first Europeans arrived in the area only about 1835 years old and did not much care about the heritage of some of the natives there. At present, in close collaboration with the most respected members of the tribe developed the method of determining the age and purpose of this monument of cultural heritage.
Although Woerden Youang and helps navigate by the sun, it is likely that the ancient builders laid in it a completely different meaning. The exact location of the stone structures hidden out of respect for the traditions of the tribe and to avoid the influx of tourists.
