The London Underground is found a unique view of the mosquito, which is not found anywhere else in the world

Mosquitoes are perfectly adapted to life in the tunnels and terrorize passazhirov

The fact that the London Underground is a problem with pests, - not surprising: after all, it is a network of warm dark tunnel under one of the most populous cities in the world. However, in addition to rats and bats that live in this huge maze, there is another threat - Culex pipiens f. molestus, or Culex pipiens species f. molestus, also known as mosquito London Underground.

The first mention of this kind appeared in 1999, the year in research geneticist Keith Byrne and Richard Nichols. The work is called "Culex pipiens on the London Underground: the differentiation between types of surface and underground." It says that this type of mosquito is unique: it is only found in the London Underground, and nowhere else in the world - his body has adapted to survive and prosper in the harsh underworld.

To lay eggs, mosquitoes need pools of stagnant water - in tunnels such a lot of puddles. Thanks to the millions of people who use the subway every day, in these puddles enough organic nutrients - such as discarded sandwiches or cells of human skin. Generation after generation of mosquitoes lay their eggs in the water, and each generation became more viable. Females do not even need to drink nutrient-rich blood before lay eggs.

Although officially mosquito London Underground acknowledged a separate species only in 1999 year, there is evidence that they have inhabited these places since the beginning of the 19th century - their ancestors settled there even during the construction of the first tunnel, which started the development of the underground transport.
