Alexandre Benois (Alexandre Benois) was born on April 21 (May 3), 1870 in St. Petersburg, in a family of Russian architect Nicholas Benois Leontyevich and Camilla Albertovna Benoit (daughter of architect AK Kavos). He graduated from the prestigious 2nd St. Petersburg High School [2]. For a while he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, also in visual arts and independently under the guidance of his elder brother Albert. In 1894 he graduated from the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg University
In the years 1916-1918 the artist created illustrations to Pushkin's poem "The Bronze Horseman". In 1918, Benoit headed Hermitage Art Gallery, has published its new catalog. Continued to work as a book and a theater artist and director, in particular working on the staging and stagecraft BDT
In 1926, Benoit left the USSR, did not return from a foreign trip. Lived in Paris, worked mainly on the sketches of theatrical scenery and costumes
