The era of the video
April 14, 1956, Americans Charles Ginsberg, Charles Anderson and Ray Dolby in Chicago made a public demonstration of its technical invention. It was the first VCR. While this device was comparable in size with three washers and cost over 45 thousand dollars. The high price did not prevent the success of VCR - they actively bought up the TV studio.
Until the early 50-ies the only possible way to record video and its subsequent demonstration was film. This does not correspond to the needs of a booming at that time television. It is because of the impossibility of recording TV shows a few years out on the air, that was, of course, very uncomfortable. The fact that people are self-recorded and viewed something from the TV, it was not at all. Therefore, the first in the history of the recorder was designed specifically for the needs of television. It has developed and launched a US firm Ampex, founded in 1943 by a Russian immigrant Alexander Mikhailovich Poniatowa.
Alexander Ponyatov
Incidentally, the name of the company is only half of his initials. Second half - a derivative of the word excellency, «your excellency." Ponyatov had it right as a former colonel in the royal army. Name of one of the company's employees - Dolby - also has much to say to the modern consumer.
First released by the coil and the VCR was intended only for professional use in TV studios. Ordinary people to buy it did not occur: deterred impressive size (about a ton!) And the price is comparable to the price of the average car. Products Ampex with a large demand and the complete absence of competition had incredible success - the same time the process of recording called "ampeksirovaniem." She even caused a jealous rivalry with the Soviet Union. In 1958, Moscow hosted the famous American exhibition, which was visited by Nikita Khrushchev. The head of the Soviet state saw record private meeting with the US ambassador, immediately ordered to develop an analog VCR "no worse».
The first Soviet professional VCR "Frame 1" (VNAIZ, 1960)
So in 1960, the first Soviet VCR "Frame". It is produced in the country right up to the most adjustment, while the Western studios quickly shifted to more sophisticated models.
70s were a time of occurrence of mass VCRs. Here Ampex receded into the background, working on technology for a professional recording studio. Market Leadership home video captured by Sony and Philips, for release in 1971 and 1972 for its compact VCR tapes. 80s were the time of the boom in sales of home video recorders, and 90 - the time of sunset and the beginning of the era of DVD, but that's another story.
