The world's first tower

In Berlin, two television towers - 230-meter and 300-meter. Both were built in the 1960s, when the city was divided. "Elder sister" of these towers was commissioned much earlier, on Sept. 3, 1926. Its opening was timed to third Vsegermanskogo Funkausstellung, and she stands at the exhibition center in Berlin's Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.
It is the first tower in the world, used to a regular television broadcast

02 The height of the tower - 150 meters, the weight of an openwork design - 600 m distance between supports - 20 m. In the project of Henry Shtraumera no additional function facilities were not provided. Restaurant (at an altitude of 52 m) and an observation deck (at an altitude of 125 m) have been designed already in the process of construction, which began in 1924. It is interesting that supports restaurants serve huge ceramic insulators made on Prussian Porcelain Manufactory.

03 Until 1933, there was the most powerful medium wave transmitter in Berlin. With the commissioning of the more powerful transmitter in the Tegel tower received reserve status. Experiments with television transyaltsiyami held here since 1929, and the first scheduled airing on 22 March 1935. Exactly five months later at the exhibition center started the fire, from which the tower was severely damaged. Broadcasts resumed on December 23 of the same year.
