Dolls losers
In ancient times doavtomobilnye nobody occurred to chase horses and carts through crash tests. It is not that horse transport was completely safe, but the horse, after all, animals are not stupid, and if not very hurry, road dismantled.
Everything changed with the advent of iron horses, a special intelligence did not differ. Since 1869, when a certain Mary Ward from the Irish town Personstaun (or Birr) crashed during a trip on a steam car in the world as a result of traffic accidents lost their lives nearly 20 million people. Over the years, power and speed of vehicles grew, and it became clear that not to think about the safety of the driver and passengers too lightly. Therefore, production models began to check for resistance to impact, first landing in interior corpses (many experts no choice in the 30s of the last century have not seen), as well as animals and even quite a living people who agreed to such work.
In 1949, finally got the first dummy crash test - Sierra Sam. Designer Samuel Elderson created it in order to check the aircraft ejection seats. No one could survive that, what was exposed Sierra Sam, as the verification activities included the acceleration to 1000 km / h. Sam was a real standard of mannequins for many years and has been used by Ford and General Motors to test the new car models. Subsequently, the company has developed a new doll Eldersona - Sierra Stan - but GM refused her service and made its dummy, named Hybrid I.
Sierra Sam
However, the real breakthrough in the technology of dummies car was not the first "hybrid", and the family of Hybrid III. It consisted of the father's height 168 cm and weighing about 77 kg, mother, child, teenager, three-year and ten-year child of the baby. Children, however, did not appear immediately, but only when the testers realized that the data on how the collision impact on children, just nowhere. Before each test dummy specially tuned and tested the hinges, which move the neck. The test results are recorded by high-speed cameras, and forty-four sensor on the "body" of each of the mannequins lets you know what the bone and exactly how broke to afford a person in a similar situation. Neither of one family in the world mocked as a family over the Hybrid III.
The family of "hybrid»
"Hybrids" have been extremely successful crash dummies, but still evolving technology, and to replace the old men come new "testers". THOR such as, for example. Unlike predecessors have worked much more realistic spine and pelvis. Besides, THOR is equipped with a large number of sensors than the Hybrid III, but his face has become much more sensitive. Although, of course, at first glance you could not tell.
Think of the children, the developers of crash dummies sooner or later would have to guess that a separate study is also required, so to speak, an intermediate option between adult and child - namely - a pregnant woman. And guess - but only in 2007. Engineers of the University of Loughborough (UK) created the first prototype of the "pregnant" mannequin. It (or rather, perhaps, in her) stomach is filled with a liquid container that simulates fetus. The purpose of these dummies is the development of more convenient for pregnant women belts. And yet, in any case, is tacked available.
But the most well-known "stunt" was probably, Buster (Buster, aka "The Destroyer") of the documentary series Mythbusters («Mythbusters"), coming on the channel Discovery Channel. What he just had no experience! In general, these experiments have been associated with a fall from a great height and explosions, as leading the program put the main task of testing the so-called "urban legends", which they have for several years uninterruptedly supplying the viewers and the Internet.
Apparently, the legend is typically not supported, for the first dummy did not survive the dangerous experiments and eventually come into disrepair, then appeared Buster 2.0, which is supplied with an easy to replace wooden "bones" and improved joints.
