Cabin in the Clouds (9 photos)

Solvay Hut name - the highest on the mountain Matterhor. It is located at an altitude of 4003 m, on the edge, just above the stove Mosley. This is a small shelter where can accommodate 10 people. The hut is intended for emergency situations, but many climbers stop there just to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views. On the edge of the ledge you can see the majestic peaks of Mount Rosa neighborhood. This house is located somewhere on the two thirds of the way to the top, 475 meters below the summit.



Cabin was built in August 1915.


All materials brought into the hut Hёrnli (at an altitude of 3260 m) with the help of animals. Also, we use a temporary cable car to transport materials to the construction site. (Bombo @ hikr.org)

Ernest Solvay (1838-1922) invented the industrial process of production of soda from common salt. Most of his life he devoted to this matter, and began to get involved in mountaineering only after retirement. (Cyrill @ summitpost.org)
