Salar de Uyuni - the world's largest salt field in the 10,582 square kilometers. It is located in southwestern Bolivia, near the foothills of the Andes 3650 meters high. When it is covered by water, water, Salar de Yuiyuni reflects the sky.
The thickness of the salt layer is more than 10 meters at the center. In the dry season the salt in a completely flat space, but in the wet season it is covered with a thin layer of water that creates stunningly beautiful reflection.
Salar de Yuiyuni is estimated to contain 10 billion tons of salt, of which about 25 000 tons is extracted annually.
You can see every mountain and every cloud, as reflected in the 'mirror', and you can not tell how far away they are, or where it starts and ends with the sky.
Due to the large size, smooth surface, high reflectivity, when covered with water, and minimum deviation surface Salar de Yuiyuni is ideal for testing and calibration of remote instruments held on orbiting satellites that explore the Earth.
In addition to the superior surface of the air over the Salar de Yuiyuni so clean and so dry that the surface runs up to five times better for satellite calibration than using for this purpose the surface of the ocean.
