The mass of the largest fragment of the Chelyabinsk meteorite estimated at 10 tons
This was stated by Russian scientists, guided by the calculations carried out by specialists of the laboratory Meteoritics Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences Vernadsky.
"We can expect that its mass can be from one to ten tons. Somewhere a piece the size of a few meters lies ", - said the deputy head of the laboratory Dmitry Badyukov.
Scientists have noted that they have managed to collect more than 450 meteorite fragments. Their total weight is 3, 5 kilograms.
Previously, scientists have stated that the ground reached the 10% of the total mass of cosmic matter, and the population collected from 100 to 500 kilograms of meteorite fragments.
Note that a fallen meteorite in the Urals decided to call Chelyabinsk, although scientists originally proposed option Chebarkul.
