Thousand ostrovov- an amazing archipelago of 1,864 islands located on the border between Canada and the United States on the St. Lawrence River. The islands of the archipelago stretches for 80 kilometers, but the biggest cluster of islands located between the bay of Cape Vincent and Alexandria. The size of the islands is very different from 40 square miles to the little ones, where there is only one building and very tiny, the only inhabitants of which, migrating waterfowl. When we talk about the number of islands, we mean only those who are above the water all year round, are larger than one square meter, and in which there is at least one tree.

The largest island is called Wolfe and extends for 29 km. Its maximum width = 9 km. He lived 1,400 people. For comparison: the smallest island is called "Room enough", it is located just one house and several wrought iron benches.

In most parts of these islands are uninhabited. Now most of the inhabited islands have electricity and telephone service.
About twenty of the islands are part of the Thousand Islands National Park, the oldest national park in Canada east of the Rockies. The park has campsites, hiking trails, festivals are held every year for the whole family.
