Memory loss due to overeating

According to recent studies, daily consumption of more than 2100-6000 calories a day can double the risk of memory loss or the cause of mild cognitive impairment in people 70 years and older. Mild cognitive impairment is the stage between normal - age - memory loss and Alzheimer's disease. Scientists have established that the excessive consumption of food due to the risk of cognitive impairment (MCI) and may impair the quality of life, writes CNews. The study involved 1,233 people aged 70 and 89 years old are not suffering from dementia (acquired dementia). At the same time 163 people had symptoms of MCI. Participants recorded the number of calories consumed in a special food questionnaire. All participants were divided into three groups, depending on their daily calorie intake. One third of the participants consumed between 600 and 1526 calories a day, the second third - between 1526 and 2143, the third - between 2143 and 6000 calories a day. In the end, it turned out that the likelihood of developing mild cognitive impairment more than two times higher for people who consume the largest amount of calories compared to those that consume the least amount of calories. In addition, for the middle group no significant difference, and increased risk of MCI was observed. The results take into account the amendments on the stroke, diabetes, level of education and other factors which may affect the risk of memory loss. Thus, the conclusion of scientists is simple - if you want to save old common sense - do not overdo the food and watch the number of calories consumed. Otherwise, the age-related deterioration of memory can turn into a serious mental disorder.
