Sinking state



Reuters photographer David Gray spent a lot of time trying to capture moments of life on the island of Kiribati. This place is a chain of 33 atolls located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and towering above the water only a few metrov.

Due to the increase in water level in the ocean, President Anote Tong predicted that the Republic of Kiribati could become uninhabitable after 30-60 years due to flooding and pollution of freshwater vody.

While climate change is a serious long-term threat, many people recognize that population growth is a more pressing problem. This is especially true of South Tarawa - the most populous of atollov.
