The most famous ship in the desert



"Edward Bohlen" - German ship length of about 100 meters, stranded off the coast of the Namib Desert on Sept. 5, 1909.
The ship was built in Hamburg in 1891 and went on the route Hamburg - West Africa. However, the rapid currents and thick fog, typical of the coast of the Namib Desert, were the cause of the accident. Eventually the sea broke away and turned into a ghost ship pustyni.

Attempts to save the ship, stranded, were unsuccessful: the steel cable towing "Edward Bohlen" who came to the aid of the vessel burst. The passengers survived the accident and were safely evakuirovany.

Currently wreck, rusty and partially covered with the sand, lay a few hundred meters from the coast linii.
