Street art in the village

Ancient village with 700 years of history under the name Doyle is located in Belgium. In the 70s, it was decided that the Antwerp harbor, which is located near this village should be expanded and soon Doyle became a target for destruction. However, many residents began to leave, while others on the contrary are interested in this place - artists from all over Europe have begun to turn this village into a work of art. When plans were announced to demolish the village, the inhabitants rebelled and successfully delayed this moment for decades, but the authorities were very insistent.

In 2008, the village sent a police squad that they forcibly evicted people from there.

Now the once-thriving village similar to the post-war streets in ruins and desolation.

Many residents have already moved out, but someone else is holding on to their homes. When residents began to leave, in the village reached a new type of residents - artists from all over Europe. They gradually began to turn into a huge live Doel canvas.

Now the whole facades and walls painted with huge graffiti.

Maybe in the village and there are no people, but huge colorful graffiti noticeably revived her.

For most of its long history of Doel enjoy a peaceful and rich in cultural terms, existence.

The village is full of old buildings, including the oldest stone mill in the country (in 1611) and the only mill on the wall (1613) - possession of the XVIII century famous painter Peter Paul Rubens.

The village is also known for the fact that it is located far away from the plant.

"War" between the inhabitants of the village and the authorities has been going on 40 years, but the demolition still seems inevitable, since the village has less than 200 persons.

The last warning residents made more than two years ago, so certainly in the near future village Doel and its amazing street art will cease to exist.
