Island of Sark - the last refuge of feudalism

Five years ago, this small island off the coast of Normandy was a feudal territory. On the island is forbidden to use cars, but bikes are welcome and horse-drawn vehicles. In general, a unique place.

The island's population - about 600 people. Sark has its own flag and coat of arms.

Residents of the island can use tractors. Motorized means may be used only pensioners and the disabled.



The island consists of two parts - the Greater and Lesser Sark related narrow rocky isthmus Little Sark, which is laid on top of the bridge with a width of about two meters.





Sark was the last bastion of feudalism in Europe. Until April 2008 on the island there were 40 farms, but the land was owned by one person - the lord, who disposed of land at its discretion and to lease land.











In 1974, the title of the ruler went to John Michael Beaumont, who became the 22nd and last Seigneur of Sark.
