Which country is the happiest? Where is Ukraine located? World Happiness Report 2024
Introduction. What does happiness depend on? This seemingly eternal question in the modern era takes on very specific forms: the United Nations (UN) annually publishes the World Happiness Report, which ranks countries by the level of well-being of the population. A kind of “global barometer of joy” is used to track the dynamics of socio-economic development around the world. The report is based on Gallup World Poll surveys, analysis of statistics and factors such as general income, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life decisions, generosity (willingness to help others), and perceptions of corruption.
But happiness is not only a set of external conditions and indices; it is directly related to psychological and spiritual well-being, the strength of social ties, a sense of personal freedom. In this article, we will look at a list of 100 countries with their “happiness indexes” (based on preliminary data from the World Happiness Report 2024), and discuss what is behind these positions. It is especially important to understand not only the dry rankings, but also how people in the happiest countries create their own culture of joy. In addition, we are often interested in where Ukraine is on this list – we will try to clarify this. The information is not tied to exact dates and events so that the article retains its usefulness for a long period.

Key factors determining “happiness”
As we mentioned, the criteria that influence the final happiness index are diverse. In addition to economic and demographic indicators, social and psychological nuances play a role. Experts note:
- Social equality and development opportunitiesSmaller gaps between rich and poor reduce general feelings of tension and injustice.
- Support for communities and loved onesFeeling “you’re not alone” increases self-confidence and reduces fear of difficulties.
- Cultural toleranceSocieties that welcome diversity tend to show high levels of self-satisfaction among different groups.
- Environmental and physical well-beingA healthy environment, the opportunity to relax in nature or at least have access to a clean park in the city.
Where is Ukraine located?
According to the “preliminary” data above, Ukraine roughly 63rd rating, with an indicator of order 5.76.. Of course, the situation depends on the political and economic developments of recent years, as well as on the emotional atmosphere in the country. However, polls show that Ukrainians, despite their difficulties, remain optimistic about a culture of mutual help, change and family cohesion.
It is important to note that any external shocks (conflicts, economic crises, pandemics) are reflected in the level of “national happiness”. But the fact that Ukraine is not at the bottom of the list shows that there are reserves and potential for further growth if socio-economic conditions improve.
Can you be a little happier yourself?
It is not necessary to move to the leading countries of the ranking. The findings of the World Happiness Report are important not only at the national policy level, but for each of us. Here are some ideas:
- Create mutual support: Be friends, join a community, help each other. Support is one of the pillars of happiness.
- Take care of your health: Let it be systematic physical activity, sleep, mindfulness to your body – all this will increase your internal well-being index.
- Learn to trust: Although it is difficult to build trust in a highly corrupt society, start with a small circle – family, friends, colleagues.
- Practice altruism: Even small good deeds increase the level of inner joy and meaning.
Outcome
The question “which country is the happiest?” in 2024, according to the UN report, again gives the palm of the championship to Finland and other Scandinavian powers. But the true understanding of “happiness” is that it is not just statistics, but the result of a combination of economic development, strong social ties, and, most importantly, a culture of trust and solidarity. And if you see your country not ranking high, it's not a sentence: personal responsibility, community contributions, and positive attitudes can all enhance your subjective sense of well-being.
After all, “happiness” is a multifaceted concept: financial stability, health, attitude towards people, and self-esteem. Even in difficult circumstances, you can focus on improving your quality of life. 63rd place of Ukraine The “preliminary list” indicates that there is still a lot to do, but the people themselves, their endurance and desire for change show that the path to the rise in the rankings (and to the growth of personal happiness) is open. Let this article serve as a motivating factor for everyone who wants to invest in their own life and in the life of the community, because it is joint efforts that create national happiness.
