Why Every House Should Have Baptist Water

Great. baptism On January 19, water is consecrated in all Orthodox churches. Today, our editorial staff will share with their favorite readers the grains of knowledge that every Christian who is going to go to the service on this day should remember.

It is known that when consecrating houses, household items, food, and sometimes transport, holy water is used. Why do people find special life-giving power in it? St. Cyril of Jerusalem answered this question: “The beginning of the world is water, and the beginning of the Gospel is the Jordan.” Sensual light shone out of the water, for the Spirit of God rushed over the water and commanded the light to shine out of darkness.

From the Jordan shone the light of the Holy Gospel, for, as the holy evangelist writes, from that time, that is, from the time of Baptism, Jesus began to preach and say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near. By his baptism, Jesus Christ “sinked the sins of the whole world in the waters of the Jordan,” sanctified the aquatic nature.

The peculiarities of holy water and its application were told by the doctor, as well as by the hieromonks of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Father Tikhon. He believes that baptized water requires special treatment: “It is eaten on an empty stomach. A man got up, crossed himself, asked for the blessing of the Lord for the beginning of the day, washed himself, prayed and received a great shrine (a teaspoon of baptismal water and a piece of prosphora).

And then breakfast and other things. Mothers need to teach their child: every morning on an empty stomach to take a spoonful of baptismal water.

Also, Father Tikhon urges believers not to collect holy water in large canisters and banks: “Do not use canisters, do not.” After all, Epiphany water is taken on a spoon, a little bit. The Fathers of the Church say: A drop of the holy sea sanctifies. You can take ordinary, unconsecrated water and add a drop of baptismal water there, it will be all sanctified.”

Many believers believe that holy water is the best medicine for both spiritual and physical ailments. Hieromonk Tikhon also believes in the power of Epiphany water: There are dozens, hundreds of cases when even from the death bed a person rose after the systematic reception of Epiphany water.

Often the clergy "prescribe" their sick children Epiphany vodka - every hour on a spoon, with faith, of course, and without faith, even a colonist drink - useless. You can wash the patient with it and sprinkle his bed.

Father Tikhon orders to keep holy water in the corner of God, next to the icons. In no case should you put it in the refrigerator, because nothing will happen to the holy water, it will not spoil. It is better to choose glass or ceramic dishes for storage and be sure to close with a lid.

Baptism is an amazing holiday! Be sure to go to the Church of God on January 19 for service, it is unusually beautiful. And, of course, stock up on Epiphany water, only wisely, so that it is enough for a spoon for a whole year.
