American director Carey Fukunaga came to Ukraine as a volunteer and leads a military blog
Famous film director Cary Fukunaga came to Ukraine almost immediately after the war began. He didn't come here to collect material for a new series or movie. The American volunteered to join the ranks of volunteers. For 2 months, he and the team of the non-profit organization World Central Kitchen helped those in need.
But what made the director of the TV series “True Detective” go to Ukraine, risking his life? Today I will talk about the intentions of the celebrity, as well as about the work done by the newly minted volunteer.
Cary Fukunaga Fukunaga wanted to go to Ukraine as a volunteer even before the full-scale Russian invasion. He watched the events in this country for a long time and understood that war could not be avoided. On February 24, 2022, the director realized that now was the time to implement a long-standing plan.
He came to Ukraine as a member of the World Central Kitchen. Its task was to coordinate local catering and humanitarian aid. Together with the team, the director collaborated with a huge number of cafes and restaurants throughout the country.
From his professional activities Carey flatly refused. In his opinion, Ukrainian filmmakers should cover the war in Ukraine, not him. And although Fukunaga took the camera with him, he didn't film much, because that's not what he came for. The film director honestly admits that he simply will not be able to make a film about the war in Ukraine. For this, he said, you need to be Ukrainian.
During his stay in Ukraine, the American managed to meet many Ukrainian filmmakers. He says they are all very talented. Carey was also struck by the level of patriotism and dedication of the locals. However, he is concerned about the possibility of division in society. There are people who still believe in the liberating power of the Russian occupiers. This causes family quarrels.
At the same time, Carey says that social division is typical in many countries of the world. For example, he observes the same picture in his homeland, as well as in Brazil and Russia. War never goes unnoticed. However, Fukunaga himself does not believe that the events in Ukraine traumatized him psychologically.
For 2 months the director is very tired. He worked without days off and constantly communicated with war victims. The worst part is that you can’t help everyone. There is no shortage of strength or resources. One of Carey's bitterest memories is with Butch. When the American saw dozens of disadvantaged people hiding from Russian troops during the occupation, he became numb with fear.
The director respects the activities of Vladimir Zelensky and Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko. But with even greater admiration he speaks of the common people of Ukraine. In him he sees strength and unshakable spirit. So he has no doubt about the victory of the Ukrainians in this war.
Through his volunteer work, Fukunaga wanted to draw public attention to serious humanitarian problems. It has long been clear that war will be the main cause of the food crisis. Now, despite the constant shelling, sowing is in full swing in Ukraine. However, its scope has been significantly reduced.
According to statistics, up to 80% of grain is imported from Ukraine to Lebanon alone. Food shortages will affect many countries in the Middle East, North Africa and South-East Asia. It is hard to imagine what millions of people will expect in the future. But the predictions are disappointing.
Instagram / @cary_fukunaga Throughout his stay in Ukraine Carey actively maintained his page in Instagram. He talked about the success of volunteering. The director also shared stories of ordinary Ukrainians who managed to escape.
Cary Fukunagi's actions deserve respect. In fact, risking his own life, he went to a foreign country to help people. He contributed to the inevitable victory of the Ukrainian people in this insane war.
Peels Ukrainians still need support. And it consists not only in possible assistance, but also in the dissemination of truthful information about the events in Ukraine. The international community must know the truth.
We believe that very soon the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine will end. Peace to all of us!

I get a couple of pickles, knowing that this salad will be swept off the table first.
