What is the new film by Andrei Konchalovsky and why it is called anti-Soviet
In November of this year, Konchalovsky’s new film “Dear Comrades” was released. Opinions about him were immediately divided. Today we will talk about the author, his views on the events that took place in Soviet times, as well as the reaction of the audience.
The film tells about the events in Novocherkassk in 1962. As many people already know, the price of milk and meat increased this year. In this regard, there were large strikes of workers of the "Electric Locomotive Plant", the authorities eliminated the unrest by quite radical methods.
It is these events that Andrei Sergeyevich observes in his film. Of course, life in Soviet times does not show its best side. That is why many people who watched the film, subjected Konchalovsky to harsh criticism and accuse him of anti-Soviet thinking. The situation is fueled by the fact that the Russian director has repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction with the old times, pointing to features that many prefer not to notice.
Of course, there is a second part of the audience that strongly supports Konchalovsky’s views. These people are convinced of an overly idealistic view of Soviet times due to nostalgia and other concomitant factors. Fans of the film, for example, strongly agitate for the truthful display of reality and believe that Andrei Sergeyevich wanted to achieve the same.
The problem for many is that they do not want to destroy their perception of the country they lived in when they were young. This seems like a real mockery, although often it’s just that. It removes the established illusion. But not everyone sees the Soviet era in such a positive light.
Firstly, it is worth considering that even historical films through the pervasive and his subjectivity. It's not a bad thing, it's just a human factor that will always be present in the field of cinema. This is why you should not take the film too seriously.
Second, Konchalovsky wanted to show his vision of what happened, and he did so successfully. It is up to us to decide whether to watch the product or not. The film should be evaluated story content, quality of filming and acting. But to find fault with Konchalovsky’s personal attitude to those times simply does not make sense.
