The championship carrying coal in England
The championship carrying coal — annual event, which takes place in West Yorkshire every Easter Monday for 54 years. Thousands of spectators gather to see the race in which men carry 50kg sacks of coal, and the women carry bags weighing 20 kg traditional distance 1 012 meters.
Participants are divided into three groups: men, women, and veterans, which consists of men over forty. A rule of the competition is simple: you need as quickly as possible to get to the finish line with a bag of coal. The prize is 750 British pounds ($940) for men £ 500 ($628) for women. But if we can break the record in four minutes and six seconds for men, or four minutes and twenty five seconds for ladies, the prize increases to £ 1000 ($1250) in men and 625 pounds ($785) in women.
