Panasonic has announced the completion of the development of new solar panels placed on the roof of the car. The model, called "HIT Photovoltaic Module for Automobile" will be tested on the roof of the Toyota Prius 2017 Prime.

Enough for a small additional recharge 12-volt battery and the fan in the Parking lot. The use of the new Panasonic solar cells that give about 180 watts, and allows you to charge Li-ion, and 12-volt batteries, increasing the mileage of an electric vehicle or saving fuel".
Koji Toyoshima, chief engineer of electrical parts to Toyota, said that the use of the new panels will increase the vehicle's efficiency by 10%. Under good weather conditions, solar battery electric vehicles will add 3.2 kilometres of a daily run. This statement seems too optimistic, but even a small savings is good enough.
In the U.S., these batteries have not yet sold – they have not yet passed the crash tests. Reported that work is underway, however, the debut solar car at the American market is delayed.
Panasonic has already signed an agreement for the supply of automotive panels HIT with Tesla, but it is about sharing with Tesla Glass manufacturing home roof solar installations. Production technology of solar modules for magni and roofs are not fundamentally different. About possible placement of solar cells on the roofs of the Tesla Model 3 mentioned earlier and the head of the company Elon Musk, who suggested placement on vehicle sliding roof.
