Color photos of Tunisia from the late nineteenth century

Pictures taken in 1899, are part of the collection of the Library of Congress.





Mashable has published on its website a selection of the vintage postcards that captured Tunisia from the late nineteenth century in color.

Presented images were obtained through the use of technology photochromic process, invented in the 1880-ies of the employee of the Swiss publishing house Orell, Gessner, Füssli Hans Jacob Schmidt.

To create the final image from the original negative to create some lithographic printing plates for each color: the number usually ranged from 6 to 15, depending on the required color accuracy.
