This transformation can be fast, that is, ate chocolate, white bread or white rice and glucose levels in the blood soared immediately. And when a person eats fruit, whole rice or bread made from whole flour, eat foods rich in fiber, this transformation will be slow and the blood sugar levels will rise gradually. Correct, useful or difficult are those carbohydrates that turn into glucose slowly. And the speed with which this transformation affects the cardiovascular system. This is due to several factors:
  • First, simple carbohydrates do not contain necessary for us vitamins and minerals.
  • Secondly, they are suspected of lowering levels of "good" cholesterol (HDL), and it is precisely this type of cholesterol reduces the risk of heart attack.
It is not entirely clear just one question, why do women (according to studies) were more sensitive than men to the products with a high glycemic index. The glycemic index is a research tool showing how the raised sugar levels in our blood after eating a particular carbohydrate. The lower this value is, the more useful the product. The glycemic index of pure glucose is taken as 100. And all the other carbohydrates are distributed on a scale from 0 to 100. The value of the Glycemic index less than 55 is considered low and, accordingly, the product is very useful, 56 — 70 — intermediate and above 70 is high. Frequent eating of foods with a high glycemic index is associated with such diseases as diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, hypertension. As a consequence of the development of chronic diseases, increased risk of heart attack.
