The Reserve Of Ein Gedi

Ein Gedi — oasis-the nature reserve in the Judean desert on the Western shore of the Dead sea, 17 km North of Massada. Perennial spring rushes down from a height of 200 m and flows through the gorge of Nahal David. In the reed-beds along the Creek are home to wild goats, hyraxes, leopards; in the rocks are nesting eagles, starlings.


Next to the canyon is the hill of tel-mountain is one of the most important archaeological sites of the Judean desert. Discovered five archaeological layers of the hill, including the remains of a pagan sanctuary of the Chalcolithic period. Throughout its history, Ein Gedi was repeatedly destroyed, but it revived again and again. This lasted until about the VI century, when these places came the nomadic tribes that completely devastated the land.


Have survived only the ruins of a unique system of water supply kibbutz Ein Gedi, which today is the admiration of professionals and the remains of a synagogue from the Roman-Byzantine period. At the beautifully preserved mosaic floor of the synagogue is the inscription in Aramaic. It talks about the caret of the Almighty, who will suffer, who will reveal "secrets of the city". Scientists believe that these "secrets" could be the secret of making the famous balm.
