A city with a record number of bridges

Hamburg is one of the hearts of Germany. Everywhere you look there are picturesque streets. And the city is colorfully different with its bridges that run across the Elbe River, there are from 2300 to 2500. Hamburg has more bridges than all of Venice. Kölbrandbrücke is the oldest bridge, opened in 1974, with a width of 325 meters and a length of 3,940 meters, so until 1991 it was considered the largest in the world. One of the most beautiful bridges is Elbrücke, built in 1899 for transport, but after the reconstruction Elbrücke became pedestrianized, and bicycles and motorcycles were allowed.

With a vertical lift whose height is 46 meters the famous Kettwick Bridge, it moves road and rail transport. When a train passes over the bridge, the traffic stops for 8-10 minutes. Ships also pass through the bridge, and every two hours on working days the bridge passes ships.

When Lombard was opened near the railway in 1651, the bridge was named in his honor, which until 1865 was wooden. Soon in 1953, he built a new bridge, it was necessary so there was a lot of transport passing through Lake Alster. In 1963, it was named after the American president, after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

In 1881, the historic Trostbrücke Bridge was built. At the beginning of its birth, it served as the border between the old and new cities of Hamburg. The bridge is decorated with stone sculptures of Adolf III and the founder of the local cathedral, Bishop Ansger.

The oldest stone bridge in Hamburg is Ellerntorsbrück, an old stone bridge built in 1668 on the main route that led travelers to Alton. Anyone who appreciates the spirit of antiquity around and underfoot should walk the bridges of Hamburg, leaving a small mark on the history of beauty that has waved our hand since the past.
