What is heartburn and how can it be eliminated?

Heartburn should be considered when increasing the amount of saliva. This symptom can be considered as an attempt by our body to wash away the acidic gastric contents in the esophagus.

The most common manifestation of heartburn is burning pain behind the sternum. But this pain may indicate a myocardial infarction. Therefore, if there is pain behind the sternum, you need to urgently consult a doctor.

Heartburn increases in a horizontal position. When we lie down, the stomach and esophagus fall to the same level, which contributes to the throwing of the acidic contents of the stomach into the esophagus.

As a rule, heartburn appears after eating, which is associated with overflow of the stomach. In order to avoid unpleasant sensations, it is recommended to eat small portions, give up fatty foods and limit the use of alcohol.

If the acid contents of the stomach are constantly thrown into the esophagus, which irritates the mucous membrane, then scarring and narrowing of the esophagus occurs over time. If the esophagus narrows, then the process of swallowing is disturbed.
