An unusual excursion in the Odessa mine

Seaside city, Odessa is famous primarily for the unique humor and warm atmosphere, but few people know that there is another amazing attraction, which you will not notice. Odessa catacombs – a network of mines, which in the 18th and 19th centuries limestone was extracted for construction of the port, residential buildings and other city buildings. At that time it was the only suitable building material, which is available in this part of Ukraine. Length of all known tunnels under Odessa more than 2.5 thousand km – more than anywhere else in Europe.
Some tunnels are actively used by the partisans during the second world war. There were cases when entire units disappeared underground. And it is not strange, because in such darkness and dampness easy to get lost and go crazy. Experiments on the underground history of Odessa continues relentlessly, and quite often, scientists find human remains.

Mazes do not like arrogant and reckless daredevils. First they lure later inspire panic, and then maddening, and keep forever. Therefore, there are a number of rules that should be obeyed is vital. Walking in catacombs alone, to retire inland, but still without basic necessities, is strictly prohibited. Even instructors and guides, not just down under the ground, not risking themselves and without preparation to explore the unexplored tunnels.

Another danger is the collapse. And they threaten not just those at the bottom, but those at the top. In the old part of town has seen the collapse of buildings that were built just above the workings.
