German engineers create bionic kangaroo

We already wrote about the company Festo, which taught robots to fly, imitating the movements of birds and dragonflies. This time, the company's engineers turned their eyes to Australia and created a robot that moves like a kangaroo. The new robot was named BionicKangaroo.
The kangaroo was chosen as a prototype not by chance – this animal uses its energy differently than other representatives of the fauna. Its actions are similar to the actions of rowers, which give the body a breather before the next stroke. A kangaroo in the air restores energy before jumping again. Energy conservation in robotics is a key factor. So finding a way to spend energy more economically is paramount.

Despite the fact that BionicKangaroo does not move as gracefully as an animal, this robot model is the most advanced and promising in the world of robotics. The design uses a combination of electrical and pneumatic technology, and a special motor controls the tail and legs. When the robot stops moving, the small paws in the front allow it to lean in to avoid falling.

None of this, of course, means that from now on all robots will start jumping, but it is always better to have additional capabilities in the arsenal.
