The researchers decided to use pine bark against melanoma

Substance derived from pine bark, is a potentially effective drug for the treatment of melanoma, according to the findings of scientists from Penn state University.

American researchers studied 480 natural compounds and identified leelamine that derived from pine bark, can be used as medicines against cancer cells. Professor Gavin Robertson says: "organic food can be a source of effective drugs against cancer, and some of them are used to treat various forms of cancer. More than 60% of anticancer remedies derived from plants, animals, marine sources or microorganisms. However, leelamine is unique in its action".

Leelamine works by shutting down cholesterol transport and its movement around the cancer cell. The end result is the death of cancer cells. Normal cells independent of this cholesterol, the drug has little effect on them. Studies have shown effective action of this unique drug on cells growing in culture and in tumors in mice. Leelamine has influenced the development of tumors in mice without any detectable side effects. An open connection is the first of a new class of potentially viable drugs for the treatment of melanoma.
