In the Wisconsin zoo were born baby red wolf
A new zoo and amusement park in Wisconsin (NEW Zoo & Adventure Park) presented six cubs of a rare red wolf, which was born on May 22. While most of the time the cubs spend in the lair with their parents, a wolf named Mayo (Mayo) and a father named Tasmaska (Tasmaska).

The first medical examination showed that all cubs (four males and two females) are perfectly healthy and their weight and behavior are age-appropriate. Mayo and Tasmasca have established themselves as wonderful caring parents, despite being their first offspring.
Mayo arrived at the Wisconsin Zoo from the Wildlife Center in North Carolina. The pair was created last fall on the recommendation of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums under a plan to conserve rare and endangered species (SSP). The main task is to restore the red wolf population.
The red wolf (Latin Canis lupus rufus) is a predatory mammal belonging to the subspecies of the common wolf (Latin Canis lupus). Previously, the red wolf was considered a separate species of Canis rufus, but it should not be confused with the red wolf (Latin Cuon alpinus).
The red wolf is the rarest member of the wolf family. It once inhabited most of the eastern United States. However, in the twentieth century, due to habitat destruction, mass extermination and hybridization with coyotes, these wolves almost disappeared, being on the verge of complete extinction.
Only about 100 red wolves remain in the wild and another 200 are in captivity. One such zoo is the New Zoo and Nature Center in North Carolina. Both are trying to increase the number of red wolves and improve their genetic diversity.
Since 1988, efforts have been made to bring red wolves back to their natural habitats in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee. It is worth noting that the red wolf is listed in the international Red Book with the status of a “species in critical danger”, and its population began to increase since 1970.
