China vs. U.S.: The Race for the Sun

Over the past six months, China has increased solar power generation by 3.3 GW. This means an increase of one hundred percent compared to last year. Thus, the total amount of electricity generated by Chinese solar panels is 23 GW. By 2015, Beijing plans to increase this figure to 35 GW, according to the website riafan.ru.

In 2013, China placed 11.3 GW of solar panels, accounting for 37 percent of the global increase in solar power. This year, it is expected to reach 13 GW, which will increase by more than one GW per month, as much as South Korea set for all of 2013.

Meanwhile, solar panels placed in the U.S. yield about 12 GW.
