Sailing yacht, printed on a 3D printer powered by solar energy

Yacht "Kira" is solar panels and no carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.

Industrial designer Sebastian Campos Moller has designed a project of a sailing ship with built-in horizontal plane with solar panels that allow the yacht to accumulate solar energy to power its engine and other marine equipment.

The brainchild of Moeller under the name "Kira" is a hybrid yacht, designed with the aim "to fill the gap between sailing and motor sailing". The designer has converted the tank at the stern of the ship in battery, powered by solar energy from solar cells built into the surface of the sail. The ship is made in a minimalist style, equipped with all the necessary that there are other similar yachts, and at the same time designed simply and comfortably, that they may be operated by untrained "Navigator". Allegedly Meller, this forty-meter vessel computer control system, it can be handled by one person.

On his website the author writes: "My goal was to find the perfect combination of performance and ease of management, while remaining true to sailing sailing, that is, to make it a unique feeling available for non-sailors, not truthfully".

The designer has done serious testing of structural elements of the vessel. So, its plating has been audited by the naval architect in Sweden. The design of the decks was revised to increase the free space. A feature of this hybrid motor sailing yacht is a Genoa sail, which is hidden in the second deck, which creates more space for various amenities, including a hammock in the bow.

Edge bead drawn into the deck, so people could find it easier to get on the ship. "Bridge" or control room is equipped with winches that are controlled by a computer, and other navigational tools that allows the maneuver alone. The stern mounted swim platform, so passengers can do it at any time. She also serves as alternate way to lift passengers on Board the vessel.

The designer has produced a working model of the yacht, which was printed on a three-dimensional printer in parts and then assembled and launched. Hybrid motor-sailing ship "Cyrus" received a bronze award in the competition International Design Excellence Awards in 2014.
