800-year-old Jamski the minaret is threatened



A unique attraction in Afghanistan — Jamski minaret — is under threat of destruction. The last time the Foundation, the brick building was severely damaged by floods. Its height is 65 meters and a diameter of 9 meters.

As soobschaetsa to the local authority money to protect the minaret from floods is not and in a short time the water could it finally break. It is noted that there have been some works to preserve the sites, but they are not enough.

In 2002, the minaret was included in the world heritage list of UNESCO. According with setorganization, the building was built in 1194 by Sultan gorodskim GIAS-ad-DIN (1153-1203) (Ghurids — Tajik Sunni dynasty).

It is assumed that the minaret was built to commemorate the victory of the Ghurids over the Ghaznavids (dynasty of emirs and sultans of southern Afghanistan) in 1192 in Delhi. In connection with this attraction is sometimes called the "Tower of victory".

Jamski the minaret is the only structure that survived after the armies of Genghis Khan destroyed the city of Firuzkuh in 1222. It is located 10 km North-East of the village of jam in Ghor province (in the past it was the centre of the Ghurid state) at the confluence of the stream Jamrud in the river Hari Rud. The gorge is surrounded by impassable mountain ranges, major towns in the district are missing.
