In Greece saved the bear

Greek ecologists and veterinarians rescued a bear cub, hit by a car, reported RIA Novosti biologist Dimitris Bousbouras (Dimitris Bousbouras), representative of the environmental organization "Arcturus". According to him, the bear got into trouble Tuesday on the national highway about 80 kilometers from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. "Bear came from the edge of the forest on the highway and was trapped between traffic lanes, a dividing strip. Then he was hit by a car and he suffered injuries," said Bousbouras. Environmentalists picked up a wounded bear on a nearby field and was taken to a care center for wild animals. Veterinarians quickly realized that the animal was lucky — he damaged a hind paw, so with proper care he can go back into the woods. Now doctors decide how to treat a young bear. Rescued bear cub about one and a half years, and he only begins a life without a mother. "Little bear is very lucky because over the last four years in region Western Macedonia there have been nine reported accidents involving bears, and they were all lethal to animals," said Bousbouras. From his point of view, cars have become a serious danger for the bears. "All the time new roads are constructed, cutting into part of the mountain, and the bears are unable to move without risking their lives. We propose to create on the highway "green bridges" in which animals will be able to navigate the roads," — said Bousbouras. The brown bear population in Greece is under threat of extinction, despite a slight increase in the number of animals in recent years. Now the specialists of the center "ARKTUR" (this is the name of the star, derived from the Greek name for " bear in Greece account for around 180-200 species of brown bear. Environmentalists in Greece do not only counting and conservation of bears living in the forest, but also the protection of animals living in captivity. "We managed to end the barbaric training. Before the bear caught the little cubs and tortured them, cauterizing their heels coals or red-hot iron. So they had the room dancing bear," — said Bousbouras. According to him, now in Greece at festivals and fairs don't see too many dancing bears, and those animals that managed to take away the bugbears are in a big fenced forest areas, where they are taken care of for biologists. Because dancing bear — still a popular spectacle in the Balkans, the Greek ecologists have established linkages with their colleagues from Albania, Bulgaria, Serbia, to bring an end to the cruel treatment of these animals in these countries.
